No, Erin doesn’t turn into anything crazy like a sports car, but she has totally transformed the boat!
For the past two weekends Erin has tirelessly cleaned our entire cabin sole and bilge! The main hose leading to the seacock for the cockpit and side deck scuppers was ruptured and the seacock was frozen shut (the details will be outlined in a separate post). The rain water that collected from the entire port side of the boat was diverted down this hose and went straight into the bilge. Who knows how long this had been going on but the high water mark is about 1 1/2 inches (38mm) above the floorboards! A nice mix of oil, diesel, and rusty water left grimy residue all over. Here are some before pics:
And here are some pictures after Erin destroyed the grime with TSP and muscle power! I think she did pretty awesome, don’t you?
We are not cleaning the teak and holly floor boards because we have a new set made up already 🙂 These are our “working boards” and will be left as is. We have taken two tanks out of the boat so far and have two more to go, once we’ve cleaned the entire bilge we will be painting any surfaces that have not already been painted with an epoxy barrier coat.
